A pilot project will give members of the public the opportunity to sit on Local Council contract selection boards for major projects. This will lead to increased transparency, especially on council spending.
The Finance Minister also insisted yesterday that the newly launched Local Enforcement System Agency would make a difference in people’s lives. The problems and abuses of the past, which harmed the credibility of local enforcement, would stop, while the system would become sustainable and focused on educating people rather than punishing them.
Regional Committees
A consultation process on giving new coordination responsibilities to Regional Committees, allowing them to offer e batter quality service to residents and in turn strengthen the role of Local Councils, would be launched. A project for Local Councils to broadcast their meetings live will become law.
Local Councils will also start offering training courses aimed at bettering people’s artistic and cultural skills. The Ghaqal id-Dar pilot project, which aims to help people improve their lifestyles, will be extended to more local councils across Malta and Gozo. The organic waste collection pilot project will also be stepped up.
