Two Syrians were arrested in Bergamo’s airport Orio al Serio, Italy just before they were to embark on a flight to Malta, Italian media reported yesterday.

The two, aged 19 and 30, were travelling with an Austrian and Norwegian passport respectively but the fact that they were speaking in Arabic led to suspicions.

The two were held for questions and photos lifted from their mobile phone showed them wearing military gear and carrying weapons along with connections to Isis.

One of the men reportedly claimed that the photos were memories of his dead brother while the other said that a man seen holding a gun in a photo was his cousin.

They were charged in court and accused of being in possession of false documents, and remanded in custody.

The police are investigating any links they may have to terrorist groups.

The Italian court is expected to deliver judgement on November 26.
