The Duke of Edinburgh Friday morning visited the St Paul’s Pro-Cathedral and Casino Maltese in Valletta.

The Duke is accompanying Queen Elizabeth on her State visit to Malta, but today had a separate programme after attending the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.

Similarly, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall had separate programmes during the day.

Prince Charles visited the Maritime Museum in Vittoriosa, taking the opportunity to call upon nations to push for the elimination of plastic waste

Plastic waste, he said, was responsible for untold damage to countless marine species, as were other human activities such as pollution and overfishing.

British flags waved by children greeted the Duchess of Cornwall today when she visited the Zejtun Primary School.

The Duchess joined in the pupils as they read stories and sang songs as part of her Read With Me literacy programme.

Camilla admired the youngsters' artwork and put on a flower necklace they had made for her before turning around and saying "how pretty do I look?"

She was presented with a painting done by the pupils before giving the school a bundle of books.
