The Duke of Edinburgh’s sense of duty and hard work is rivalled only by his sense of humour. He has become renowned for his quick-witted comments anywhere he sees fit, which always proves hilarious for anyone around. This current Royal visit is no exception, according to comments picked up by the British media.

When visiting the Anglican Church where the Queen and he used to worship when they lived in Malta between 1949 and 1951, he met worshippers and four veterans who served in the Royal Regiment of which he is colonel in chief. When told some had been living here for 40 years, Prince Philip replied “What are you running away from?”

When meeting a Gozo resident, he commented that the area was famous for its tomato paste and “If they didn’t export it, they would be up to here in the stuff!” while pointing at his chest. Prince Philip also had something to say to the worshippers who weren’t clean shaven enough saying “It isn’t difficult, you know, to shave in the morning.”

Upon meeting the Archbishop Charles Scicluna, The Duke couldn’t resist letting him in on a little secret. Whispering behind his hand “I’ll let you into a little secret. We are all Christians, you know!” The Archbishop laughed replying that he agreed saying that “we should all be working on Christian unity.”

The Prince has become rather infamous for his politically incorrect remarks throughout the years. To the President of Nigeria wearing traditional robes during a state visit, Prince Philip commented “You look like you’re ready for bed!” To Aboriginal leader William Brin during a state visit in Queensland in 2002 he asked “Do you still throw spears at each other?” To guests at the reception for the opening of an £18 million British Embassy in Berlin, he called it “a vast waste of space.” And to a Scottish driving instructor in 1995 he asked “How do you keep the natives off the booze long enough to pass the test?”
