Saturday, 28 November 2015, 14:28 Last update: about 9 years ago

One of the two Syrians who was about to embark on a flight to Malta with a fake document will have to respond to charges of association with terrorism, Italian news agency ANSA reports today.

Alali Faowaw, 30, was caught by Italian authorities in Bergamo a few days ago. He was with another Syrian using a false passport to take a flight to Malta.

ANSA reports that a photo of him in Islamic State gear was one of the fundamental elements that led to the two new charges.

Initially, ANSA reports, he was charged with only having false documents.

Prosecutors now believe that he formed part of the Islamic State.

Over the past days, seven Syrians were caught trying to embark on flights to Malta from Rome, Bergamo and Treviso.
