A 29-year-old man was brought before the courts after his partner filed over 10 domestic violence reports, a prosecuting officer told the court today.
It emerged during the sitting that reports from both parties were received by Inspector Daryl Borg.
The man from Senglea has been charged with threatening his former partner, instilling fear, misuse of electronic equipment, breaching the peace and breaking bail conditions.
The accused threatened to run her over with a car, the inspector told Magistrate Monica Vella.
Defence attorney Mark Mifsud Cutajar said that both were at fault and that the former partner has chased the accused with a knife and that she is also due to be arraigned.
The man pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Lawyer Leontine Calleja, appearing Parte Civile for the victim explained that the situation had escalated after the accused visited the children and made off with them without her consent. She argued that the accused had also beaten the victim with a wooden stick. It was not specified whether or not this occurred on the same occasion as the knife incident.
The defence requested bail, arguing that his client is a wheelchair user and was missing two legs, adding that the woman did not need to fear him.
Dr Calleja objected, indicating that the accused was quite strong, independent, and drove a car. The woman presented medical certificates to prove the injuries suffered from the attack with the wooden stick, the lawyer explained, stressing the fear of domestic violence.
Bail was granted and a warning given not to harass the woman and her family. He is only able to contact her in order to visit his children.
