A Masters degree course in ageing and dementia studies was launched this morning by the University of Malta and Parliamentary Secretary for Active Ageing Justyne Caruana.
The duration of the course is three years and the cost is €800 for each semester.
Dr Caruana announced that the government will sponsor public sector workers willing to take up the “unique” course. She said that there’s no set number of how many can apply but highlighted that she hoped there will be a good response.
“We want to open doors wide open, not close them,” she said when asked by this newsroom how much she estimates it will cost the taxpayer to fund the course for public sector workers.
Dr Caruana said that this course is part and parcel of the dementia national strategy launched by this government.
The registration date has been extended but the course starts in February. A call will be published in the government’s intranet later today for public sector workers who would like to take up the course. Non-government workers may apply directly through the University.
