PN calls for Police Commissioner to investigate Gaffarena scandal without delay

Wednesday, 10 February 2016, 14:20 Last update: about 9 years ago

The PN said that, from the Auditor General's report, it is clear that the Gaffarena Old Mint Street deal was facilitated heavily by the OPM, and it is the duty of the Commissioner not to "sweep the government's dirt under the carpet", but to investigate the case without further delay.

The released a statement in reaction to reports in local media that the Police raid on the Lands Department the day after the Auditor General's report about the Gaffarena scandal, was not part of an investigation. This, according to PN, confirms that not only are the Police not investigating the Office of the Prime Minister, which was directly implicated in the report, but there is no active investigation whatsoever.

With this in mind, the PN is insisting that the Commissioner initiates a criminal investigation based on the facts published in the Auditor General's report, with particular attention on the 'collusion' which directly involves the ex-Parliamentary Secretary, Michael Falzon.
