In August 2015, registered full-time employment increased by 4.5 per cent when compared to the corresponding month in 2014, while registered part-time employment as a primary job rose by 2.7 per cent, the NSO said today.

Administrative data provided by the ETC show that over a period of one year, the labour supply (excluding part-timers) increased by 3.2 per cent, reaching 177,262. This was mainly attributed to an increase in the full-time gainfully occupied population (7,344) and a drop in registered unemployment (1,784).

Registered full-time employment

In August, administrative and support service activities contributed mostly to the increase in employment, compared to August 2014. Registered full-time employment in the private sector went up by 7,028 persons to 127,955. Public sector fulltime employment increased by 316 persons to 44,393.

The number of persons registered as full-time self-employed rose by 691 when compared to August 2014, while the number of persons registered as employees increased by 6,653.

Full-time employment for males and females went up by 3.5 per cent and 6.2 per cent respectively over 2014 levels.

Registered part-time employment

Registered part-time employment in August 2015 went up by 4.1 per cent when compared to a year earlier. The sectors that contributed mostly to the overall increase were Wholesale and Retail Trade, Repair of Motor Vehicles followed by Accommodation and Food Service Activities.

The number of part-timers who also held a full-time job amounted to 24,461, up by 6.4 per cent when compared to the corresponding month in 2014. Employed persons whose part-time job was their primary occupation totalled 36,395, up by 2.7 per cent or 945 persons when compared to 2014.
