Man pleads guilty to theft worth €15,000 from jewellery store

Carmel Mugliett, 53 from Marsascala, today admitted to the theft of €15,000 worth of items from a jewellery store, situated in Republic Street Valletta.

The incident occurred between 10 am and noon on February 9. The man is well known to the police due to having previous theft related convictions. He committed the theft soon after leaving court on a separate case.

Inspector Daryl Borg told the court that stolen goods were have not yet been retrieved, aside from €340 in cash found in his possession.

He was remanded in custody awaiting judgement.

Inspectors Jeffrey Scicluna and Daryl Borg prosecuted and legal aid lawyer Martin Fenech appeared for the defence. Magistrate Audrey Demicoli presided over the case.
