The works on the Kappara junction are set to be concluded by the end of the year 2017.
This evening in Parliament, Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Joe Mizzi told Parliament that the Ministry held a very fruitful meeting with interested parties, including the local councils of the localities involved.
He said the works at this roundabout will surely create an inconvenience but alternative routes are being arranged so that they can be used by those who frequent this junction daily. The works on alternative routes started last December.
The meeting with the stake holders was held today and said he would be updating the information for the public on alternative routes and the works being carried out.
Transport Malta will also be holding more meetings in the near future.
Replying to supplementary question by the Government's whip Godfrey Farrugia, the Minister said that the project is aimed to be finished by end of 2017.
Spokesperson for the Opposition, Marthese Portelli asked what will happen to the palm trees that are currently sitting on the roundabout. The Minister said that the palm trees will be removed after consultation with experts. They will be given to the Armed Forces of Malta.
She also asked if it was true that no minutes were held during these meetings, Minister Mizzi said that minutes taken by previous administrations proved nothing useful.
Dr Portelli also asked who is the contractor responsible to take care of the palm removal and why it wasn't ELC chosen to take care of the project.
Joe Mizzi said that the contractor was chosen fairly through a tender.
