Wednesday, 6 April 2016, 19:16 Last update: about 9 years ago

GO plc is the main sponsor of the 2016 Malta Robotics Olympiad, taking place this Friday, 8 April 2016, at the Cottonera Sports Complex. Malta's largest robotics and technology event this year has the added attraction of featuring a real movie scale BB-8 Droid, as seen on Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Episode 7).

The Malta Robotics Olympiad will begin at 9.00am, with a robotics competition for students, which will run until 2.00pm. The event will then open to the public at 4.00pm, with various hands on workshops and demonstrations, including drone racing and the BB-8. Entrance to these evening events is free and will run until 9.00pm.

Daniela Bagnaschi, Senior Manager - Marketing, at GO, said, "We are proud to be supporting this unique event and excited to see how our education system is preparing our children for the world of robotics.  Robotics is the future and will become increasingly more important in our daily lives as the next generation of internet allows us to connect more and more devices to the web.  GO, through its multi-million investments in its Fibre-To-the-Home Internet infrastructure is playing a key role in making this exciting future a reality."

James Catania, Education Officer Computing & ICT at the Ministry of Education and Employment, which is organising the Olympiad, said, "This event brings young people together to develop their creativity and problem solving skills through challenging and educational robotics challenges. It also gives the public a great opportunity to try their hand at coding, robotics, design and technology, through loads of workshops and demonstrations. Organising an event on this scale is obviously a challenge and we are very thankful to GO for the support they are providing to ensure this year's Olympiad is a success."
