Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said today that commercial relations between Malta and Jordan could double with greater cooperation. He was speaking at the end of a business forum in Jordan, during which a cooperation agreement was signed between the chambers of commerce of the two countries.

The agreement was signed in the presence of Dr Muscat and Jordanian PM Abdullah Ensour.

Dr Muscat said the commercial relations between Malta and Jordan could double in the space of two years if cooperation between the two countries increased. It was disappointing, he said, that economic activity between the two countries in the same region was so low.

He also spoke about the Malta’s potential and excellent economic results and said good opportunities existed for Jordanians to invest in Malta and vice versa. Dr Muscat said one example was the upcoming investment by the Sadeen Group – the people behind the American University of Malta.

Mr Ensour said Jordan was a centre of stability in a problematic region. He said there were great investment opportunities in Jordan and called for more cooperation between the two countries.
