Watch: PM passed message that it’s ok for minister to open company in Panama - Busuttil

Gabriel Schembri Friday, 29 April 2016, 12:14 Last update: about 9 years ago

The Prime Minister gave a clear message that it’s ok to have a Minister and OPM Chief of Staff opening companies in Panama, Simon Busuttil said this morning.

The Opposition Leader was replying to questions by journalists after a visit at Actavis in Bulebel. He said that yesterday’s Cabinet reshuffle was a farce, especially after the PM chose to have Manuel Mallia back as minister while Konrad Mizzi still holds the title in spite of being relieved of his portfolio.

Dr Busuttil said that, with the decision to keep them by his side, the Prime Minister “gave his blessing” to Mizzi and Schembri.

“All of this shows, now more than ever, that the Prime Minister himself is an accomplice,” he said.

Asked to clarify what he meant yesterday when during a press conference he said that the PN will take necessary action in and out of Parliament, the Leader of the Opposition said the first matter is for the House to debate the vote of no confidence presented by Marlene Farrugia against Mizzi.

“But this will not stop here,” he insisted. “Yesterday’s reshuffle enraged people even more.”

Dr Simon Busuttil gave his comments to journalists following a visit to Actavis branch in Bulebel. He said that right now, the focus is shifted on the local financial services, for the wrong reasons, more than the manufacturing services. But the latter, he said, still remains one of the strongest economic sectors in the country's economy.
