Date for Marlene Farrugia no-confidence motion in Konrad Mizzi to be set on Monday

Saturday, 30 April 2016, 08:08 Last update: about 9 years ago

The date when Parliament will be debating the motion of no confidence submitted by independent MP Marlene Farrugia against Minister Without Portfolio Konrad Mizzi is expected to be established during the House Business Committee meeting on Monday.

The Nationalist Party, which has already said it will be supporting the motion, has been insisting – alongside Dr Farrugia – for Parliament to set a date.

Last Wednesday, Opposition Whip David Agius requested the Speaker to set the date for the following day, but Anglu Farrugia refused, saying that the House Business Committee must be convened to determine Parliament's agenda.

The motion of no confidence in Konrad Mizzi was filed by Dr Farrugia on the day that Parliament debated a motion of no confidence in the whole government, which the government won 38-31. Dr Mizzi has since been removed from the post of Minister of Health and Energy and instead been given the title of Minister Without Portfolio in the OPM.

The committee will now meet on Monday, which will be a busy night for the House, considering that apart from the plenary session and House Business Committee, will also see two other committees meeting concurrently – the Public Accounts Committee and Social Affairs Committee.
