PN takes credit for sharp lowering of carbon dioxide emissions

The Nationalist Party has taken credit for the 26.9% reduction in carbon monoxide emissions in 2015 when compared to 2014.

In a statement signed by shadow minister for energy Marthese Portelli, the PN said the Eurostat figures confirm that the PN government’s vision for the energy sector was bearing fruit.

This reduction was possible because of the investment carried out by the PN in the interconnector with Sicily, which is guaranteeing cleaner air and the lowering of energy prices. This investment also led to the closing down of the Marsa power station and the BWSC power station which was also contributing to improvement.

This is also confirmation that there is no need for the power station wanted by Joseph Muscat, Konrad Mizzi and Keith Schembri, which is under investigation by the Auditor General.

In a counter-statement, the Labour Party chose to attack PN leader Simon Busuttil, even though he did not sign the PN statement.

It said the PN tries to take credit for the energy sector when it consciously ignored a plan which the Labour Party, in government, is now implementing.

The PL said that the only plan Simon Busuttil had was to retain air pollution, and is now boasting that it reduced emissions. The people know that were it not for Labour, energy prices would have remained high.
