The Prime Minister Joseph Muscat this evening reiterated that it is the public that will decide whether the Panama scandal is a case closed or not.

Dr Joseph Muscat was replying to questions to the media following a parliamentary debate about a non-confidence motion against No-Portfolio Minister Konrad Mizzi called for by independent MP Marlene Farrugia.

He said that the government approached this debate by showing its political power but at the same time, with a humble attitude.

"The speeches made by the government MPs were very humble. They did not show supremacy. I think it was a very open debate which shows how the government wants to discuss important issues."

He mentioned in particular the speeches by government whip Godfrey Farrugia and by the Minister for Education Evarist Bartolo. Dr Muscat also praised the speech made by Konrad Mizzi in which "he apologized unconditionally."

"On the other hand, the tone of the speeches made by the Opposition was arrogant and condescending," he said.

He admitted that this case has damaged the government personally and politically.

Asked about the publishing of contracts signed by the government, the Prime Minister said that he already had stipulated the timelines and that they will be published as promised.

He also announced that the government will soon be launching initiatives to show the transparent way in which this government will be operating.
