Former Prime Minister Alfred Sant today questions the need for both political parties to have two deputy leaders.
“Does the Labour Party really need two deputy leaders? Is not one enough?” he writes in today’s blog on The Malta Independent.
“The same applies to the PN which in recent years adopted a similar organizational structure to Labour’s.”
Dr Sant’s considerations come as Labour is preparing to have its second election for deputy leader in four months. In February, Konrad Mizzi was uncontested for the post after Toni Abela was unceremoniously removed, but he resigned last month in the wake of the Panama Papers scandal, with the PL once again being constrained to hold a second election, which will be held in June.
The PN introduced a second deputy leader when Simon Busuttil took over the reins of the party three years ago.
