Gainfully Occupied Population: November 2015

Administrative data provided by the ETC show that over a period of one year, the labour supply (excluding part-timers) increased by 3.2 per cent, reaching 178,381. This was mainly attributed to an increase in the full-time gainfully occupied population (7,245) and a drop in registered unemployment (1,741).

Registered full-time employment

In November administrative and support service activities contributed mostly to the increase in employment, compared to November 2014. Registered fulltime employment in the private sector went up by 7,214 persons to 129,088. Public sector full-time employment increased by 31 persons to 44,533.

The number of persons registered as full-time self-employed rose by 654 when compared to November 2014, while the number of persons registered as employees increased by 6,591. Full-time employment for males and females went up by 3.2 per cent and 6.4 per cent respectively over 2014 levels.

Registered part-time employment

Registered part-time employment in November 2015 went up by 5.5 per cent when compared to a year earlier. The sectors that contributed most to the overall increase were Wholesale and Retail Trade, Repair of Motor Vehicles, Accommodation and Food Service Activities, and Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities.

The number of part-timers who also held a full-time job amounted to 24,374 up by 7.4 per cent when compared to the corresponding month in 2014. Employed persons whose part-time job was their primary occupation totalled 34,850, up by 4.2 per cent or 1,404 persons when compared to 2014.
