Dun Karm Cassar pitch inaugurated in Għajnsielem with new turf, fencing and lights

Minister for Gozo, Anton Refalo and Parliamentary Secretary for Sports, Chris Agius, have officially inaugurated work on the Dun Karm Cassar pitch in Għajnsielem. It was extended with new synthetic turf and surrounded by a new fence, as well as new lighting. Work has been going on for a number of years and perfectly coincided with the football team winning the championship.

Minister Refalo said that the Ministry's priorities are to improve the sports facilities so that all the athletes have the best facilities for exercise and competition. With an investment of over a quarter of a million euro, the pitch came together after a chain of work done to strengthen to youth and sports sectors. "This is the best investment the government can make," said the Minister.

Mr Chris Agius congratulated the football team for their win adding that the government is focusing on improving the existing facilities, as well as building new ones. This isn't only happening only for football, but for a number of sports. The government is invested in making sure that sports becomes ingrained in the lives of the general public.

Mr Agius added that every club should insist on having the best facilities possible, but that they also take care of what they have so that they could be better used and maintained. The Parliamentary Secretary also spoke about white paper allowing these facilities to be commercialized so that every association or club becomes self-sufficient.
