A Ghanaian was today given a suspended sentence after being caught trying to enter Malta with a fake Italian passport.
Samuel Attah, 23, of Ghana, was arrested yesterday shortly after arriving in Malta on an Air Malta flight from Rome.
He told police that he came to Malta to look for work. He cooperated with police but did not name any names when asked how he got hold of the passport.
Mr Attah, who pleaded guilty, told the court that he wanted to return to Ghana.
Magistrate Audrey Demicoli handed him a 12 month sentence suspended for two years.
Noel Cutajar served as Mr Attah's legal aid lawyer. Police inspector Darren Buhagiar prosecuted.
