MaltaToday has apologised to lawyer Peter Fenech for a string of articles written about him in past years, and the three pending libel cases that had been instituted by Dr Fenech have now been withdrawn.

Yesterday, MaltaToday editor Saviour Balzan and MaltaToday website editor Matthew Vella made a declaration in which they referred to the “various articles published over the last few years on a number of media outlets of which we are editors. In these articles Dr Peter Fenech was mentioned in a number of contexts and in different capacities.

“We declare,” Balzan and Vella wrote, “that Dr Fenech acted in accordance with the law in the aforementioned matters.

“It was never our intention,” Balzan and Vella added, “to slander and/or take away or injure the reputation and/or integrity of Dr Peter Fenech.

“We apologise,” Balzan and Vella said, “for any harm and inconvenience that we may have caused with our writings and/or comments.

“By virtue of this declaration, all pending cases between the parties, both of civil and constitutional nature, are hereby being waived,” Balzan and Vella concluded.

Dr Fenech had won substantial amount of damages in three other libel cases that he had instituted against MaltaToday.
