Agreement to increase the number of elderly residential care beds in Gozo reached

Saturday, 28 May 2016, 17:00 Last update: about 9 years ago

An agreement to increase the supply of beds for elderly residential care in Gozo has been reached, Parliamentary Secretary for persons with disability Justyne Caruana announced today, while at Villa San Lawrenz, Gozo.

The supply increased following the service that was introduced last year, bringing the number of beds through public-private partnerships up to 40, she said.

She said the agreement was needed due to an increase in demand, and the fact that Gozo has an ageing population.

The system in Gozo works identically to that in Malta, she said, where persons who apply for services will be assessed by a multidisciplinary team who evaluate the situation and look at personal needs of the individual who applied. Forms for this service can be obtained by phoning 2590 3175.
