Saturday, 28 May 2016, 11:39 Last update: about 9 years ago

Family Minister Michael Farrugia today announced that a social project including a night shelter is being planned for Hamrun.

Addressing a press conference, the minister said that the idea for such a project originated from the local council.

Apart from the night shelter, the project will include social security offices and a centre for social development.

The minister said the area around the local council officers will be embellished while the roof of the local council offices will be offered for use by the Hamrun community.

Permit for the project, to cost over €300,000, were obtained from the Planning Authority a few weeks ago.

A call for tenders will be published shortly and the project is expected to be completed in the second half of next year.
