Minister Helena Dalli announces price reduction of eleven medicines

Government today announced that the price of eleven medicines will be reduced. Minister for Social Dialogue Helena Dalli said this in a press conference at the pharmaceutical complex of Aurobindo in Hal Far. The price reduction ranges from 8% to 67%.

Among the medicines which will have their price reduced is Ventolin, which is used to treat asthma. The price of this medicine will be reduced by half and will be sold at €3.15 instead of €6.34. Dermovate, which is an ointment used to treat the skin, will have its price reduced by 67%. This medicine will now be sold for €2.05 instead of €6.19.

Medicines used to treat prostate problems and heart diseases will also be reduced by €9 and €8 respectively.

The government is also publishing a list of newly introduced generic medicines which will now be made available in the local market. Some of these medicines are 85% than other alternatives.

Minister Helena Dalli said that this government recognizes the importance of having accessible medicines to patients and that is why the Medicines Intelligence and Access Unit were established.
