A 21-year-old Somali has been remanded in custody after pleading not guilty to damaging a car in Marsa.
Abdiqani Mahad Mohamed was charged with wilfully damaging a Chevrolet Aveo, causing more than €250 in damage, disobeying the police, disturbing the peace, committing a crime while serving a suspended sentence and relapsing.
Inspector Borg, prosecuting, said the owner had caught the accused red handed punching the car. The case took place yesterday afternoon.
Legal Aid lawyer Benjamin Valenzia said the accused had indicated that he would be pleading guilty but, when asked by the court what his plea was, Mr Mohamed said he had only touched the car. As such, he entered a not guilty plea.
Magistrate Gabriella Vella remanded the man in custody.
