The Malta Union of Midwives and Nurses (MUMN) has withdrawn directives it had issue to nurses at Mater Dei and Mount Carmel hospitals after an agreement was reached, Health Minister Chris Fearne announced today.

In a tweet the Minister said: “Agreement reached with MUMN on way forward w issues at Mater Dei as well as at Mount Carmel. MUMN withdraws directives."

The MUMN had declared a dispute after a patient escaped from Mount Carmel some days ago. The union said this had been the result of a shortage of nurses. Mount Carmel CEO told The Malta Independent last week that an investigation had been launched following the escape.

The nurses’ union had issued the following directives: No nurse should take an oath before the investigation board, no nurse should open and close the main hall door for workers who, up until a few days ago had a key, no nurse must fill out a form related to first level constant watches or treatment orders which are meant to be filled out by other professionals.
