Two non-Maltese persons have been taken to hospital following an explosion, probably from a cooker, in a house in Marsa.

The explosion took place in Azzopardi Street.

Residents heard a loud noise and then saw a man, one of the residents of that house, crawling outside the house calling for help.

He was later followed by a second resident in the house who happened to be in another part of the house and was thus unaffected by the explosion. 

He spoke to the police who arrived on the site and later the two were taken to hospital.

A subsequent statement by the police said one of the men is a 32-year-old from Guinea while the identity of the second man is as yet unknown.
