Women’s organisations support accessibility of emergency contraception in Malta

Thursday, 23 June 2016, 12:16 Last update: about 9 years ago

The Malta Confederation of Women’s Organisations (MCWO) said it supported the accessibility of the emergency contraception to women in Malta.

In a statement, the MCWO said it has been following the current debate related to the emergency contraception, also referred to the morning-after pill, which works to prevent unwanted pregnancies. After considering the fact that there are similar contraceptive methods, such as the coil available in Malta, the MCWO feels that women in Malta have the right to a wider choice of emergency contraception.

The morning-after pill is much less costly, less invasive, more accessible for women who might need it and will give them more control over their health and their lives.

Therefore the MCWO is supporting licencing and accessibility of this medicine in Malta.
