A Somali national was for a time in critical condition after he fell a height of one storey in Sliema this morning, the police said.

The Somali, who is resident in Zebbuga, Gozo, fell from the Tower Road promenade onto the beach below.

A Mater Dei Hospital team gave first assistance to the man who was later taken to hospital, where he was found to have suffered grievous injuries.

His condition was later described as having improved.
