A spokesperson for the Home Affairs Department confirmed the incident, saying that the condition of the three inmates has been stabilised.

After being tipped about the incident, The Malta Independent sent the following questions to the Home Affairs Ministry: Were the inmates taken to hospital? Were they in the presence of warders (when they collapsed)? What is their condition? Is it a case of drug use? Has an investigation been launched?

TMI received this reply: The Corradino Correctional Facility is investigating to find out why three prisoners collapsed. They are in good condition and were given the necessary treatment.
