A 27-year-old biker died this evening when his Honda motorcycle crashed into a wall in the Tal-Qroqq tunnels.

The man, Nick Agius from Paola, died on site while a woman, 24 from Rabat, who was riding pillion was injured and hospitalised.

Eyewitnesses said that the bike ended up several metres away from where the body was found.

The accident happened at 9.30pm.

A magisterial inquiry is under way. 

The funeral will be held at the Zejtun church on Wednesday.

The Facebook page belonging to Mr Agius has been flooded with people sharing their condolences and sadness at such a tragic time. 

A number of former driving students took to social media to express feelings of shock, after learning that their former driving instructor had passed away.
