Marsaxlokk €6 million regeneration project – better traffic management, new roads

Marsaxlokk Local Council welcomed the news that, after months of discussions, the government has officially announced a €6 million regeneration project for the locality.

The project, promised during the 2015 local council election campaign, will breathe new life into the locality, not only aesthetically but also through traffic management in the village core.

It will also create pedestrian zones, new roads and Triq iz-Zejtun will be rebuilt.

In addition to this, there will be new parking spaces for Sunday market sellers – solving the diagonal parking problem along Xatt is-Sajjieda.

The same parking spaces will be used by residents and visitors throughout the week. The areas reserved for fishermen and their equipment and boats, particularly near the playground in Triq il-Wilga, will be safeguarded.

The project is a good start and can lead to other initiatives in the locality, the council said. “We do not want to sound greedy but the power station plant is substantial and we will keep up the pressure on the government and Enemalta to build the promised water polo pitch, Triq l-Arznell and the better use of historical buildings like the Vendome Tower and Fort Delimara.

“As a local council we believe that Marsaxlokk has big potential, which is why we are continuing to work and improve the area,” Marsaxlokk Mayor Horace Gauci said in a press release issued this morning.
