The Foreign Affairs Ministry confirmed this morning that no Maltese nationals were involved in the tragic train crash in Puglia earlier this week, in which 23 people died.

“All those who died have so far been identified and there are no Maltese involved, and none amongst the injured,” the Ministry said.

The crash happened on a single stretch of track running through an olive grove between the towns of Corato and Andria in Puglia. Both trains were made up of four carriages.

Minister for Foreign Affairs George Vella extended his heartfelt condolences to the relatives of the victims and augurs a speedy recovery to those injured.
