Labour Party Councillor Ray Azzopardi has resigned after appearing in court facing serious charges, Labour Party deputy leader Chris Cardona said.

Speaking to The Malta Independent this morning, Dr Cardona said that the resignation was submitted yesterday evening. "I was informed by (Azzopardi's) lawyers that he resigned," Dr Cardona said.

Yesterday, the Minister said that the Labour Party cannot afford to have a local councillor with such serious charges levelled against him.
