A man in Texas flew off an elaborate water slide and landed feet below onto a rocky cliff. The accident was caught on camera.

David Salmon was taking a ride on the backyard water slide in the Austin area as his friend, Danny Cummings, recorded it on video, international media report. 

The video that Salmon shared on his Facebook page on Monday shows him speeding down the tan coloured slide. 

Salmon can be seen trying to use one of his arms to slow down on the slide while approaching a tricky curve.

But it wasn't enough to stop him, as his body slid up and over the side of the slide before the video cuts off. 

It's estimated that he fell 15 feet below onto a rocky cliff area below.

Emergency crews had a hard time reaching him because of the location of the slide and the rocks, it was reported.

In the Facebook post, he said he was transported to a Round Rock hospital by ambulance, as he suffered fractured ribs, a broken arm and several cuts and bruises across his body.
