The PN and PL are at loggerheads on the extension of the Freeport issue. According to the Labour party, the Nationalist Party is reconfirming that it is in favour of the Freeport's extension on ODZ, and therefore in favour of more pollution in the area.
"Like the rest of the political establishment which Simon Busuttil is a part of, the Leader of the Opposition wants to create further detriment and inconvenience to the people of the South. The people are in shock at seeing the person who aspires to become the next Prime Minister, treat the people of Birzebbugia and the vicinities as second class citizens."
The PN, in a statement, shot back saying that Birzebbugia PL local councillors voted against a motion that would insist upon an explanation being given by government on the impact of the gas tanker that will stay just a few miles off the coast.
The PL Councillors, the PN said, defended the Prime Minister's "gift, a gas tanker that is a danger for all families and businesses in Birzebbugia".
The PN is in favour of expanding the Freeport's operations in order to increase the number of jobs with a decent wage, the statement read.
