A Syrian was yesterday arraigned in court in connection with a domestic violence incident that happened two days ago.

The accused said that when 85 pairs of socks went missing in the laundry, he could no longer put up with his partner’s negligence. The partner is a Maltese woman cohabiting with the Syrian.

Magistrate Josette Demicoli presided over the arraignment.

The accused, whose name cannot be published by court order to safeguard the identity of his children, aged 10 and 11, admitted to causing the children and his partner fear that violence could be used against them.

The man who also pleaded guilty to assaulting his partner was put on probation for one year. However, he insisted in court that he never harmed his daughters.

The court ordered the man not to approach his partner as he would lose his personal guarantee, which amounted to €1,000.
