Announcement on new PBS head to be made in the coming days – Owen Bonnici

An official announcement on the new head of PBS will be made in the coming days, the minister responsible for PBS, Owen Bonnici, told this newsroom yesterday.

The Minister stressed that the question as to who will be appointed the new CEO lies with the PBS board.

Sources within PBS however, have confirmed that John Bundy will be taking over. It is understood that the Board is set to meet on Tuesday.

Anton Attard has chosen not to stay on in the post he has occupied since August 2010, and calls for his removal have been abundant since the Labour Party won the 2013 election. One person in particular who has been a major critic of Mr Attard is ONE chairman Jason Micallef.

Mr Bundy started his TV career on Smash TV but moved on to the Nationalist’s Party’s media, later to TVM, and finishing with Labour’s Super One.

PBS sources said they believe Mr Attard wanted to continue his career in the private sector. He waited for Eurovision to pass, worked hard for Malta to win but did not succeed, and then probably decided to leave.

This newsroom sent questions to Mr Attard, which included whether he was offered the opportunity to stay on as CEO, whether he wanted to continue on in the position or where he intends to go next.

He chose not to answer the questions, and said: “These are matters that appertain to the Board of Directors of PBS Ltd and announcements will be made in the coming days. I have nothing to add.”
