Waterpolo: Saints waltz through to the final, M'scala amble to victory against Gozitans

The holders will defend the honour won last season in a second successive final. They strode over an exiles side, who had won their first seasonal victory two days earlier, against valletta, but who found the Saints in a mean mood, as they swept past their opponents, and had already made their intentions very clear till the interval. San Giljan were without Peter Borg, with Joseph galea taking his place. The Saints were also helped in their way with a four from seven man up situation, and three penalties before the interval, all converted. On the other hand Exiles were a man up on three occasions, but failed in all of them.

The Exiles skipper, Kayne Lanzon, opened the scoring, with the champions turning the score around with Matthew Zammit, a Boris Vapenski penalty and Paul Fava goals. Sean gravina pulled a goal back for Exiles, but a second Vapenski penalty had the Saints on a double advantage. In the second period Keith Galea scored another goal for the champions, with Milos Vukicevic netting for exiles. Vapenski scored twice more, the second from yet another penalty. Gravina obtained Exiles' fourth strike, but Aurelien Cousin, Dino Zammit and Ben Plumpton made the score 10-4 for San Giljan at the interval.

After the break it was captain, Matthew Zammit with a brace of goals for the champions. Vukicevic scored a great backhand for Exiles, with Dino Zammit making the score 13-5, going into the last quarter, where more goals ensued. Kurt Grixti for exiles was followed by a trio of striles for the Saints, by Vapenski, with two, and  Keith Galea in between. David Pave Lupi netted another Exiles goal, with the champions again obtaining three more goals, through Vapenski and a brace by Andreas Galea. Vukicevic netted Exiles' last goal, and Plumpton rounded up the final score for the match, in favour of San Giljan.

M'scala amble to victory against Gozitans

M'scala are in yet another final, where they are the holders. It wastheir fourth victory over otters this season, after three league wins. The Gozitans fell gradually more behind with each passing session, with M'scala running away from their opponents in a high scoring last period. Both sides opted to put in their second custodians in the last quarter. Otters made it four from eight in their man ups, whilst M'scala were better off, with a good five strikes from seven. Otters had Steve Dimech missing, and M'scala were without Jamie Busuttil.

M'scala went into a two goal advantage, by Gabor Kovacs and Liam Grixti. Matteo Cacici opened the account for Otters. M'scala added three more goals, from Stephen Micallef Otis Zammit and Micallef again. In between Otters scored twice, through Gabriel Mizzi. In the second session M'scala increased their lead with a trio of goals, a couple from Clyde Bonello and Zammit. The Gozitans came back with Marko Jelaca and Cacici strikes, for an 8-5 score at the interval.

After the break it was again M'scala with three more goals, by Grixti, Bonello and Kovacs. Luke Hyzler grabbed an Otters goal before the end of the period, for an 11-6 score. The last session had M'scala dominating, with a total of five strikes, the scorers being Bonello, Grixti Kovacs and twice from Zammit. In between Otters' Georg Debono was shown the red card. Hyzler scored again for the Gozitans, with Kovacs and Micallef adding on to M'scala's tally. The last goal of the match came from a Jelaca penalty for Otters.
