St Julian’s parish priest not worried about Tigullio party disrupting village feast

Worries that a party at Tigullio night club would ruin the St Julian’s feast celebrations on Sunday have been put to rest.

Parish priest Claude Portelli told The Malta Independent that he met with the owners of the nightclub, and they told him the party, during the celebrations, would be held indoors which is soundproof.

Tigullio is located directly under the parish church.

Articles published in the local media read that some were worried that the procession might not occur due to the loud music. According to the advertisement of the party, a number of local djs will play on the night.

Father Portelli explained that on the day of the feast, all bars in the area have a permit to play music until 4.30pm, after which they will need to stop playing music in the square. The procession will leave the Church at 7pm and return at 11pm.

“A fireworks display will occur on Saturday, along with around 20 Catherine Wheels, which have been absent for a number of years, also on display”.

“We will have the In Guardia re-enactment team saluting from the top of the church instead of just the hunters firing their guns,” he added.

The St Julian’s feast is normally well attended by the public but has faced certain problems over the last years, with regard to the fireworks display, as has been reported by The Malta Independent previously.

This year, enough cash was collected by those organising the fireworks for a 20-minute display
