Economy Minister Chris Cardona today did not exclude the reappointment of Sai Mizzi as Malta’s special envoy to Asia.

Sai Mizzi, wife of No Portfolio Minister Konrad Mizzi, has been at the centre of controversy for three years after it was revealed that she is pocketing €13,000 a month for her services.

Her three-year contract expires tomorrow, but addressing the media today, Dr Cardona would not exclude the possibility of her being reappointed.

Malta Enterprise, the government entity that employs Sai Mizzi, needs an experienced person in that position, Dr Cardona said.

We want someone of the same level as Sai Mizzi in that job, the minister added. Whether it’s her or someone else who will be appointed remains to be seen.

Earlier this month, answering questions from The Malta Independent, Malta Enterprise had said that Mrs Mizzi's contract would not have been renewed.
