Consumer Affairs Authority issues notice about suncream product with wrongly advertised protection

Friday, 26 August 2016, 10:13 Last update: about 9 years ago

The Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority wishes to inform the general public that it has been notified, through the EU Rapid Alert Notification system for products with quality defects, that the product Sunscreen Chrono Repair Solaire 30+ manufactured by Laboratorie Sintyl of Geneve has been found not to offer the protection stated on the packaging of FPS 30. Consumers are advised that this product therefore poses a risk of sunburn due to the lower level of protection offered. The batches affected by this notification come from lot numbers 2627 and 2665.

The MCCAA Technical Regulations Division is not aware of any local agents of the product, but is still advising the public due to a possibility that such product could have been purchased online or during holidays. Economic operators who have such products on their shelves are requested to immediately remove them from the market. Any consumers who might have purchased the product locally are kindly requested to contact the Authority on 2395 2000 so that necessary action can be taken.
