Updated: Maltese singer Ira Losco gives birth to baby boy named Harry; says she is recovering well

Maltese singer Ira Losco gave birth to a baby boy last night, named Harry.

In a Facebook post, Ira Losco thanked "everyone who was part of this incredible journey". She also included a photo of baby Harry.

"Our baby Harry was born last night and I am recovering well. Sean was of such support, which was very needed as my delivery wasn't an easy one. I must thank the delivery staff at Mater Dei are absolutely incredible. Ultimate organisation and extreme timing, My delivery wasn't an easy one and they took care of it so amazingly well. I'd like to thank all the doctors and nurses especially Carmen Wareing who took care of me with such care and passion, our Anesthetist Mr.Zahra, Our gynaecologist Mark Sant who supported us through out our pregnancy and Dr. Samuel our paediatrician who took care of Harry during his first minutes of life. I wish I could remember all the names, thank you all for your love and support. Harry and I are both healthy and settled in hospital".

Ira Losco has become a household name here on the island, achieving great success through her music. She has also competed in two editions of the European Song Contest, the first back in 2002, the second this year.

Back in May, during the run-up to the Eurovision song contest, Ira Losco had written the following: “Im ecstatic that my boyfriend Sean, family and friends are here to support me all the way. To add to all the excitement I'm also celebrating my First Mother's Day as a mother-to-be”.

Sean Gravina wrote the following on Facebook. "What an absolute journey from the beginning till the very end of it. Our baby Harry was born last night and Ira is recovering perfectly, she was great. I have something to say about the hospital here, they are absolutely incredible. Ultimate organisation and extreme timing, Ira's delivery wasn't an easy one and they took care of it so amazingly well". He went on to thank the hospital staff.

In a tweet, both the Prime Minister Joseph Muscat and Leader of the Opposition Simon Busuttil congratulated the couple.
