Sadeen licence means government achieved largest educational foreign investment - PL

The licence granted by the National Committee for Education to the American University of Malta means that in the first three years of this legislature, "government managed to attract the largest foreign investment in the energy sector, the largest foreign investment in the health sector and the largest foreign investment in education," the PL said.

Yesterday, the National Commission for Further and Higher Education yesterday announced that it has awarded a five-year license to Sadeen Education Investment to operate a University in Malta

"The Opposition couldn't see this success, and this is why it attacked every project with one excuse or another".

In the case of AUM, the PL said, Opposition Leader Simon Busuttil first took issue with the location of the university, then had a problem with the educational credentials

"This step is a blow for Dr Busuttil. AUM showed its educational and financial credentials to an independent commission who gave them a licence after a rigorous process, where PwC also took part".

The PL said that Dr Busuttil tried to instill fear about the project. "He was wrong when he said that this institution will never be able to be called a University. He was also wrong when he said that government rushed the project and was approving it through loose laws".

"He had no problem in suggesting a Freeport expansion, and defending the fish farm operators, but wanted to deprive the south, and the whole country, from educational investment"

"The PL will continue working despite this negativity".
