Saturday, 24 September 2016, 14:32 Last update: about 9 years ago

The 24th edition of the Malta International Airshow is being held today and tomorrow at Smart City (flying displays) and at the Malta International Airport (static display.)

This year’s edition will feature participants from Malta, France, Italy, Poland, Ukraine, the United Kingdom and the United States of America but one of the most highly anticipated acts is the Ukranian Air Force Su-27 Flanker jet, which will perform a flying display.

The flying display will take place between 5pm and 7.30pm at Smart City. Entrance is free but parking will be administered by Smart City staff at a fee.

Several aircraft will also be parked at the airfield, where entrance, including parking, costs €8. 14 year olds and younger go in for free.

The flying display will also feature the last-ever display by the Italian AF AB212 as the Italian Military Mission winds down its Search And Rescue mission in Malta. It also includes a joint aircraft/helicopter display by AFM, and a fly by a P-8 Poseidon operated by the US Navy.

The Airshow will come to a close with an aerobatic display by Italian team Pioneer which will also feature pyrotechnics set off from the aircraft during the display.  The same programme will be followed on both Saturday and Sunday.

Transport service from Airport to Smart City will be provided, while Bus number 3 will be operating from Valletta to Smart City offering a direct service.

It’s important to note that the traffic around Smart City will be one way from Kalkara side towards Smart City, and then leaving from Xgħajra side.

The flying of drones at both sites is strictly forbidden.
