An elderly man, 78, from Qormi was grievously injured this afternoon in a traffic accident on Mdina road, Attard.

The accident took place at 4pm, when the man, who was driving a Hillman Hunter, lost control of his vehicle, hit another vehicle and then crashed into a tree.

The second vehicle, a Hillman Hunter, was being driven by another resident of Qormi, aged 30.

An ambulance was called on the scene and took the elderly man to Mater Dei Hospital for immediate treatment.

A police investigation, led by the Birkirkara police station, is currently underway.
