Throughout the night of Notte Bianca 2016, on Saturday 1 October, the public will be given the chance to visit the House of Representatives in Parliament, between six in the evening and midnight.

Guided tours are being organised to inform the public on the aims and duties of Malta’s highest institution, parliamentary procedures, the work carried out by Parliamentary committees and other works carried out.

Science in the House

Throughout this edition, all those visiting Parliament will also be able to visit ‘Science in the House,’ that forms part of an annual activity, broadly forming part of ‘Science Week in the City 2016’ organised by the Science Department at the University of Malta. This was also organised in collaboration with the European Researchers’ Night Consortium, who have been invited to Parliament again under the auspices of the Speaker, Anglu Farrugia.

This visit will exhibit the research undertaken by the relevant science departments, in particular related to neuroscience, ICT, engineering, medical science and social science.

Transplant Support Group

Also going to be present at Parliament will be the Transplant Support Group (TSG) to encourage more Maltese to consider organ donation, and also provide information to interested people on how to get onto the national Organ Donation Registry.   

National campaign to raise awareness on dementia

Parliamentary Secretary for the rights of persons with disabilities and active ageing Justyne Caruana, under the Family and Social Solidarity Ministry, will also be present at Parliament during the Notte Bianca activities to promote awareness on dementia. This is being done in order to make the public aware of this medical condition, and how many lives it effects. Through this educational campaign, the public will be taught to indentify the first signs of dementia and how to provide assistance to people suffering from this condition.

Take Care of the Environment for the Future Generations

There will also be an exhibit of clothing made out of recycled newspaper and an arrangement of flowers with the theme: take care of the environment for future generations, organised by Connie Scerri and the students of the Connie Scerri Floral Class.

Members of the public interested in going will be required to bring with them their Identification Document (ID). Children are to be accompanied by their parents/guardians.
