Saviour Mercieca, a Gozitan centenarian who will be 101 in March 2017, told former Prime Minister Alfred Sant that he still follows with interest events unfolding in Malta and abroad. 

Dr Sant paid a courtesy visit to Mr Mercieca at his private residence in Sannat, Gozo.  Mr Mercieca thanked Dr Sant for finding the time to visit him and told him that he has always followed his political career in Malta and now at the European Parliament. 

Mr Mercieca, a popular figure in Sannat, told Dr Sant that he previously managed a wine shop in his village. Mr Mercieca, a bachelor, born and has forever lived in Sannat, told Dr Sant  that although he never travelled abroad he follows with particular interest the MEPs' interventions at the European Parliament.
