William Chetcuti of Malta won Bronze at the ISSF World Cup Final Double Trap Event.

The best shooters of the world met at the ISSF World Cup Final in Rome, ITA.

More than seven months after the 2016 season kicked-off, the ISSF World Cup Final in Shotgun Double Trap Event awarded the seasonal title at the TAV Valle Aniene Shotgun Range in Rome.

Only the top shooters of the world who earned points all along the 2016 through the ISSF World Cup stages in Nicosia, Rio de Janeiro, San Marino and Baku were selected, together with the XXXI Olympic Games Rio 2016 medal winners.

The holder of the 2015 ISSF World Cup Final title, Steven Scott also took part in the last International Shotgun competition of this year.

A total of 11 shooters, representing 9 nations participated in this Event.

The Maltese shooter qualified for the semi-final stage with the score of 141/150, an identical score as Jeffrey Holguin of USA, James Willett of Australia and Steven Scott of Great Britain.

Fehaid Aldeehani, the Rio 2016 Olympic gold medalist topped the qualification stages with the score of 143/150 and the sixth athlete who reached the semis was Andreas Loew of Germany with the score of 139/150.

The two participants of the People’s Republic of China Qiang Pan and Junjie Mo, Russian Federation’s Vasily Mosin and both Italian shooters Marco Innocenti and Alessandro Chianese were all eliminated.

In the semi-final, Chetcuti started from station 3 and managed to hit 27/30 targets.

He was forced in a three-way shoot-off to qualify for the Bronze Medal Match with Fehaid Aldeehani and Steven Scott as they all finished with the same score. William Chetcuti had the best out of this as he hit his first pair of targets while his challengers missed a target each.

On the other hand Jeffrey Holguin, James Willett and Andreas Loew all managed 28/30 in the semis and had to go through another three-way shoot-off, this time for two athletes to qualify for Gold and one athlete to qualify for Bronze.

Out of these three it was Loew who had to challenge William Chetcuti for the third place on the podium.

In the Bronze Medal Match the Maltese athlete did not look back as he hammered Andreas Loew with the grand score of 29/30 to 24/30.

The winner of the ISSF World Cup Final was the young Australian, James Willett as he beat USA’s Jeffrey Holguin with the score of 28/30 to 27/30.

The ISSF calendar in Shotgun Events of next year will start off in February 2017, with a World Cup in New Delhi, India.
